Triodos Microfinance Fund

Triodos Microfinance Fund (TMF) is a semi open-ended mutual fund established in Luxembourg. TMF seeks to make an active and sustainable contribution to poverty alleviation by increasing access to financial services for low-income people through its investments in MFIs. The Fund aims to stimulate local entrepreneurship in developing countries and to support the economic and social empowerment of women to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. The Fund will target Established MFIs but will also invest in some Emerging and Start-up MFIs on a global basis predominately through Debt instruments.

TMF was launched in March 2009 and has made investments is 13 MFIs in 10 countries. Total assets in the Fund at 30 June 2010 were EUR 46.3 million, of which 90% is invested. The NMI Global Fund has committed EUR 4 million to the Fund.

Triodos Microfinance Fund is managed by Triodos Investment Management, a leading investor in the microfinance sector since making its first investments in MFIs in 1994. Since its inception, Triodos Investment Management has invested in approximately 80 MFIs in 40 countries. Triodos Investment Management is responsible for managing a number of funds that invest in Europe and developing countries. Total assets under management amount to EUR 1.6 billion at year-end 2009, of which EUR 237 million is invested in microfinance.
